A fresh take on Vermeer’s classic, this painting can be enjoyed from afar or near and has a whimsical almost playful quality to it. This is one of many paintings where I chose specific iconic or relatively known subject matter, I like the challenge of such works, especially when attempting to do a spinoff of a master work such as Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a pearl earring’ (made 1665), no small task. I look at this like a writer who types his or her favorite book by their favorite author, I will never be Vermeer, that is ridiculous, I am Mahaloness after all.
