In 1861 during the time of Charles Darwin’s publication of his book ‘The Origin of the Species: By Means of Natural Selection, or, The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.’ c.1859 a man by the name of Benjamin Disraeli ‘coined’ this enduring phrase* in Oxford, England.

The question is this- Is man an ape or an angel? His response to his own question turned out to be memorable: ‘My Lord, I am on the side of the angels.’

An observation: The famous explorer and naturalist Charles Darwin, along with the likes of Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), challenged the popular beliefs of the Church with regard to human evolution and origin of species. Despite the evidence provided by Darwin’s observations there remains an innate human curiosity of the spiritual version of the great story.
